Pique-R Mono Ski

  • We are excited to unveil our newest sit-ski! The Pique fills the gap between the Monique and upper echelon mono skis. A fresh approach to adjustments and suspension combine for a progressive skiing experience.

The Pique adjusts center of mass differently than other sit-skis. Instead of adjusting center of mass down at the boot over the ski, the Pique is adjusted up at the upper frame over the suspension. This provides a more consistent suspension experience for all skiers regardless of seat angle, footrest position, skier size, amputee, etc. This consistency allows the Pique to offer an unmatched range of setup including seat angle, footrest angle, position and length. Combining the Pique's setup range with ET's signature ease of adjustment creates a versatile ski for programs and a confidence inspiring opportunity for individuals.

Further inspiring confidence is the Pique's unique suspension layout. A light mountain bike shock, minimized unsprung weight and a tailored dual-link leverage curve provide nimble performance for the target skier. The layout tucks the shock up out of the way allowing for ample clearance and comfort on the chairlift.

The Pique can be used with your own seating system (frame only) or is offered with our familiar Clam Shell Seating System in Low or High Back configurations. Convenient for programs, our Clam Shell Seating System is interchangeable between the Dynamique, Monique and Pique.

    • Versatile Sizing: One frame size fits everyone from 5'0" to 6'3".
    • Lightweight: Built from aircraft grade aluminum, the complete frame weighs less than 25 lbs without a seat.
    • Ride Height:The Pique strikes a middle ground between the Monique and upper echelon mono skis. Compared to taller sit-skis, this middle height trades razor sharp precision for a more stable and playful skiing experience.
    • Adjustments:  Instead of adjusting center of mass down at the boot over the ski, the Pique is adjusted up at the Upper Frame over the suspension. This provides a more consistent suspension experience for all skiers regardless of seat angle, footrest position, skier size, amputee, etc. The Pique offers 3" of center of mass adjustment in noticeable 3/4" increments. All adjustments are on threaded inserts to eliminate fumbling with nuts and wrenches. The center of mass, seat angle, footrest angle and position can all be adjusted with only one tool: a 7/32” Allen Wrench. A common #3 screwdriver is used for swapping seats and footrest length. To further simplify setup for programs the bolts have been color coded. Silver bolts are for instructors and black bolts are for maintenance. The seat angle is adjustable to four positions over a 15 degree range. The lowest position is flatter than most mono skis while the upper positions help fit any riding style. The footrest, made of durable infusion molded fiberglass, is adjustable to 6  positions over a 20 degree range and can be dialed in with 3" of upper leg adjustment and 6" of lower leg length. Only one footrest size is available for the Pique.
    • Kinematics: A lightweight mountain bike shock drives over 6" of travel. This provides enough guts to explore the mountain while keeping the ski lighter, nimbler and easier to maneuver. We often think of suspension as force exerted down from the skier into the shock, but the snow also plays a large role exerting force up into the shock. By using a layout that minimizes unsprung weight, it takes less force up from the snow before the Pique's suspension begins to move. The result is a more compliant ride that feels more connected with the snow. The Pique's suspension layout is tailored to get the most out of a light mountain bike shock. The leverage curve is engineered to be softer off the top, consistent through the mid stroke and provide significant ramp up at bottom out. This variance of suspension feel throughout travel isn't possible without the Pique's innovative progressive dual link. The Pique moves through travel different than other sit-skis too. Off the top, it pressures the tip of the ski going into turns. Through the mid travel, the seat angle does not change providing more predictable mannerisms. As you get deeper into the travel, it dumps the seat angle back towards the tail. This emulates the motion of able-bodied skiers and provides a truer interaction with an alpine ski.
    • Chairlift: The Pique's suspension packaging tucks the shock up out of the way allowing the skier to sit all the way back against the chairlift. The lower frame has a one sided skid to prevent binding hang ups on the underside of the chair and as an added bonus it helps steps the sit-ski into bindings. To further aid getting off teh chairlift, the recessed skid plate does not have any rivets or fasteners the underside could catch on.
    • Clam Shell Seating System: Our infusion molded fiberglass seats are substantially stiffer, ski superior, and fit better than our original co-polymer plastic offerings. The Clam Shell Seating System has an adjustable back angle which is ideal for sit skis with chairlift loading systems, programs who fit many different skiers, and individuals dialing in their skiing. Convenient for programs, our Clam Shell Seating System is interchangeable between the Dynamique, Monique and Pique.
    • Boot Sole Length: A 325mm BSL aligns with the RESNA suggestion and is similar in size to many mono skis on the market including the Monique.
    • Accessories: Everything from outriggers to spare springs are available to help make your experience even better and can be found here.
  • The Pique comes with choices to accommodate a wide range of ability levels and customer needs. Below we provide insight and recommendations to help you with those choices.

    Shock Spring Weight

    • Below are our recommendations. More aggressive skiers may find they enjoy jumping up a spring weight from recommended. We recommend programs with multiple seat sizes purchase all 5 spring weights to provide as many skiers as possible with the best skiing experience.
    • Under 110 lbs = 300lb spring
    • 110 - 140 lbs = 400lb spring
    • 140 - 170 lbs = 500lb spring
    • 170 - 200 lbs = 600lb spring
    • 200 - 230 lbs = 700lb spring

    Seat Size

    • We measure seat size by the shell width at the hips. This measurement takes a thin liner and padding into account.

    Seat Back Setup

    • At 14" tall from the seat bottom, the Low Back offering is a contoured choice for skiers with enough abdomen strength. It does not have chest strap mounting provisions. It does not include a Chest Strap or Limiter Strap.
    • At 22" tall from the seat bottom, the High Back offering provides additional support for those who need it, while a relatively flatter back profile allows those who don't need it to still achieve separation without the sides digging in. It is a program conscious shape that allows one seat to better serve a wider range of individuals. The High Back has chest strap mounting provisions and includes a Limiter Strap. The Limiter Strap is a Velcro strap that provides a "set and forget" way to remember where the seat back angle was.
    • The Basic Chest Strap is an add on for the High Back. It can be adjusted up and down 2" in height to better match a skier's needs. Combined with the Limiter Strap the setup provides unprecedented shell support for skiers using chest restraints and allows these skiers to pressure the tip of the ski like never before with an adjustable seat.

    Footrest

    • Only one footrest size is available for the Pique.
  • The Pique has a user weight limit of 230 lbs and is covered under our Adaptive Skiing Equipment Warranty. While similar to other sit skis, several key features make it unique.
